sllac now on twiiter
Yes that right South Launceston Little Athletics has joined the social media world by opening a Twitter account! The sole reason for this is to be able to get important information to you the parents/guardians in a more efficient manner. For example we can now 'tweet' if a meeting is cancelled due to bad weather if you will receive a text message on your mobile instantaneously. No more hanging on the radio announcers every word! However to make this work we need your support by following SLLAC on Twitter. The steps you need to do is as follows: 1) Send a text message (sms) to 0198089488 2) The text in the message should be Follow sllac
That's it! You will receive a confirmation message back from twitter to say you are now following sllac, There is no risk of getting 'spam' text messages, the only messages you will receive from this point on will be from the centre and they will only entail urgent information or reminders.

Australian Little Athletics C'Ships On the 21st April the Domain in Hobart played host to the Australian Little Athletics Championships. South Launceston was extremely well represented by the 13 athletes that were chosen to represent the state. All athletes should be proud of their achievements with many walking away with personal bests on the day. It was a great experience for each and everyone of them and they should be very proud of the way in which they conducted themselves throughout the meet.
Two athletes in particular had outstanding results. Getasew Ferguson ran them off their feet in the 1500M to win Gold, then followed that up by lapping most of the field in the 1500M Walk to once again achieve Gold. His day wasn't complete as he also won a Bronze Medal in the Javelin. It may be the first time a Tasmanian athlete has won 3 individual medals at the National Championships.
Patrick Chilvers after missing a medal by only 2cms in the Long Jump came out and won Bronze in the Triple Jump. Once again a fantastic effort by Patrick.
To both boys and all of our representatives we congratulate you on your outstanding achievements and wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

Health Expo
On Saturday 3rd December 2011 the SLLAC held a Health Expo Day to coincide with its normal meeting. The aim of the expo was to provide information on health issues related to participation in an outdoor summer event in a fun and interesting way. Our Centre sees the health side of active participation in sport as important as participating in sport itself. On the day we were lucky enough to have representatives from The Cancer Council, Sports Medicine Australia, Tasmanian Podiatry Association, The Heart Foundation and Eat Well Tasmania providing information and promotional materials to our families. Apples were also donated by Miller's Orchardand Bolands IGA Newnham and handed out to each participant as they completed their 100M.
