We are here for the kids!
South Launceston Little Athletics Centre Inc. (SLLAC) is the largest Little Athletics Centre in Tasmania, catering for in excess of 500 parents and children, (300 little athletes). Athletes consist of boys and girls in the age range under 6 to under 15.
The parents include grandparents and we also provide activities for toddlers/infants. SLLAC encourages gender equity and participation by children suffering disabilities.
SLLAC conduct various athletic events including but not limited to sprints, hurdles, race walks and long distance track events, discus, shot put, javelin, vortex and turbo javelin throwing events, high jump, long jump, triple jump and skills development events.

These weekly programs are carried out for approximately six months, October to March, on a Saturday morning but also include several twilight meetings and Sunday Intra-State Athletic Meetings, culminating in the State Individual Championships in March.
South Launceston Little Athletics Centre Inc provides children between the ages of 5 -14 with the opportunity to compete in an atmosphere of fun, enjoyment and lasting friendship fulfilling the phrase "Family Fun & Fitness". And embracing motto of Australian Little Athletics of "Be your Best".

Centre Fees 2010/11The fees for all clubs at our centre are consistent and have increased by $5 per athlete from last year to cover increased costs at centre level. The fees which should be paid to individual club treasurers are as follows:
1 Child - $105 2 Children - $180 3 Children - $245 4 Children - $290 Tiny Tots - $30 U14 / U15 Dual registration - $60 |
St Leonards Facilities
A map of the St Leonards facilities has been produced and is available for download from the downloads page. This shows the layout of the track, all field event sites and marshalling areas. There is also a revised (Changed for 2009/10) seating plan available on the downloads page showing the allocation of the grandstand to various clubs. Clubs not housed in the grandstand area will have shade tents erected for their use.

New Events / changes in 2010/11
There will be some new events this year. The U9s will now be able to compete in an 800m (on Program 1) and U13-U15 will be able to participate in a 200m hurdles event consisting of 5 flights of hurdles (on prgram 3) See the updated event program on the menu tab. Other changes include U14-U15 no longer requiring qualifying times for entry to the State Individual Championships. |
TLAA Coaching Camp
The TLAA holds a coaching camp in January of every year for U12 and U13 athletes. This camp is designed to provide coaching in all Little Athletic events and to devlop closer ties between all athletes and other centres. All under 12 and under 13 registered athletes are welcome to attend regardless of ability.

Play by the Rules provides information and online learning for community sport and recreation on how to: prevent and deal with discrimination, harassment and child abuse, and develop inclusive and welcoming environments for participation.
SLLAC supports this initiative and encourages all officials, parents, athletes and others involved with our centre to log onto this website (Click on the logo below) where there is heaps of information and complete the online training courses relevant to your level of involvement.

SLLAC U13 State Team Reps
The U13 State team was announced at the conclusion of the State Individual Championships. South Launceston is pleased to announce that 9 of our athletes were selected in the team that travels to Brisbane in April for the Australian Little Athletics Championships. Congratulations to you all - we know that you will represent your centre and State with pride. Congratulations also to Aiden Rigby who was seleted in the State U15 team and he is included in the picture below.

New TLAA logo
Australian Little Athletics launched their new logo at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in April. The logo is to be shared among all member States. In a release to centres, the TLAA stated "Our new identity represents a love for Little Athletics and celebrates our passion for having a go. Our new colours take inspiration from the very environment Little Athletics takes place in. Blue represents the sky above our heads and Green, the grass under our feet."

State U13 Sportmanship Awards
Congratulations to Emma Walker who was awarded the Tasmanian State Little Athletics Sportsmanship Award at the State Championships. Emma is a worthy winner of this award as she always participates giving her all and always shows respect to all athletes and officials in her sport. Well done Emma - The Centre is proud of your achievements.

Cancellations
If a meeting has to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, announcements will be made on ABC Northern Tasmania Local Radio on 91.7FM. If the meeting is cancelled before 7:20am (or 3pm for twilights), an announcment will be published on this web page.
